Snapchat rolls out its end-of-year Recaps

Snapchat has officially begun rolling out its end-of-year Recaps, allowing users to reflect on their 2025 experiences. This feature presents a personalized video compilation that showcases memorable Snaps, Stories, and Chats, highlighting how users interacted and expressed themselves throughout the year. To access their Recap, users need to open the app and head to the 'Memories' section, where they will find a card labeled 'Your 2025 Snap Recap.' This initiative follows a trend among various platforms, including Spotify and Apple Music, which have also shared similar year-end summaries. In conjunction with the Recaps, Snapchat shared impressive statistics regarding user engagement over the past year. Notably, the platform emphasized that traditional phone calls remain relevant, revealing that users averaged nearly 1.7 billion minutes of talk time each day—an increase of almost 30% compared to the previous year. Furthermore, U.S. users sent over five billion voice notes, marking a nearly 10% rise from last year. Group chats continued to be a favored method of communication, with the number of users messaging in groups increasing by over 5% in 2025. Some users reported sending more than 8,880 messages to their top group chat this year. Additionally, the use of Chat Reactions surged by 44%, with the heart emoji emerging as the most popular choice. The trend of sticker usage also grew, with three million more users opting for this form of communication. The launch of the 2025 Recap comes at a time of user dissatisfaction regarding Snapchat's upcoming plans to impose storage fees. In September, the company announced that free access to Memories would be capped at 5GB. Users whose memories exceed this limit will have to subscribe to new Memories Storage plans, with pricing starting at $1.99 per month for 100GB of storage. Snapchat+ users will receive up to 250GB for $3.99 monthly, while Snapchat Platinum users will gain access to a substantial 5TB for $15.99 per month. This shift in policy has prompted some users to call for a boycott, urging the platform to reconsider its decision on the storage fee implementation.
