Snapchat adds new features for creators, including an easier way to edit videos

In its ongoing battle against Instagram and TikTok, Snapchat has revealed a fresh lineup of features aimed at empowering creators. Announced on Thursday, these enhancements are designed to simplify the process of content creation and sharing on the platform. Among the most notable updates is the introduction of the "Timeline Editor," which offers an innovative approach to video editing directly within Snapchat. This feature allows creators to organize their video clips in a chronological manner, making it easier to trim, rearrange, or move segments. Once the desired sequence is established, users can enrich their videos by adding Lenses, selecting music from Snapchat's extensive Sounds library, and utilizing various creative tools. This development could potentially eliminate the need for creators to rely on third-party editing apps like CapCut for simple video edits before uploading their content. Additionally, Snapchat is rolling out a new "Create a Video" template, enabling users to select specific Memories, choose a soundtrack from the Sounds library, and apply their preferred template to create customized compilation videos. This feature is set to launch globally on iOS. Another exciting update allows users to automatically save their public Stories to their profiles, making it easier for followers to revisit past content. While this feature could be seen as undermining the temporary nature of Stories, it offers an opportunity for creators to maintain a lasting archive of their best moments. To further assist creators, Snapchat will provide deeper insights into content performance. This includes metrics on viewer engagement, such as the number of unique viewers who watched public content over the past month. Creators will gain access to data on which of their Spotlight posts and public Stories garnered the most views in the previous 28 days, along with total view time across all content. Moreover, creators will receive information about their traffic sources, detailing where views originated from, including the Discover For You page, Following, Spotlight, Search, Chat, and Profile. Insights will also cover the average time users spent watching Spotlight posts and the completion rate of these videos, offering creators valuable information to optimize their content strategy.
