Snapchat’s new Lens lets you create AI images using text prompts

Snapchat has introduced an exciting new feature called the "Imagine Lens," allowing users to generate and modify images through a text-to-image AI generator. This capability is currently accessible exclusively to subscribers of Snapchat+ Platinum and Lens+. The Imagine Lens empowers users to craft unique Snaps by entering personalized prompts. For example, users can request images such as "create an image of a grumpy cat" or "turn me into an alien." Additionally, the Lens includes a variety of pre-loaded prompts, allowing users to engage creatively with suggestions like, "Make me into a funny caricature" or "Turn me into a four to five panel comic where something unexpected but heroic happens." Snapchat emphasizes that users can easily tap the caption bar to modify their prompts, giving them the freedom to explore their imagination fully. Earlier this year, Snap introduced an AI text-to-image research model designed for mobile devices, hinting at future enhancements for Snapchat’s features. While the company has not confirmed if this model powers the new Lens, it stated that the Lenses are constructed using a blend of proprietary models and leading industry AI technologies. For those subscribed to Snapchat+ Platinum and Lens+, the new Lens can be located at the front of the Lens Carousel or within the Exclusive category. Users can engage with the Lens by selecting it and tapping the caption to enter or adjust their prompts. The subscription for Snapchat+ Platinum is priced at $15.99 monthly, while Lens+ is available for $8.99 per month. Snapchat has been recognized as a pioneer in augmented reality and has been increasingly investing in artificial intelligence in recent years, following a trend among tech companies. Recently, Snap launched a dedicated Lens Studio iOS app and web tool designed to facilitate the creation of AR Lenses through user-friendly AI tools. Additionally, the company debuted its first video generative AI Lenses earlier this year.
