Snapchat brings AI-powered conversational advertising to its app

In a groundbreaking move, Snapchat has introduced "AI Sponsored Snaps," enabling users to engage directly with brands through their AI agents. This new ad format will appear in the app’s primary Chat tab, revolutionizing the way users interact with advertising content. Previously, users could only view ads without any interaction, but the introduction of AI Sponsored Snaps changes that dynamic. Users can now pose questions and receive tailored recommendations from brands, adding a layer of conversation to the advertising experience. While some may be hesitant about the integration of AI in ads, Snapchat believes its users are ready for it. According to a company blog post, over 500 million users have interacted with the AI chatbot since its launch in 2023, suggesting a growing acceptance of AI-driven conversations. Ajit Mohan, Chief Business Officer at Snap, emphasized the significance of conversation in advertising, stating, "Conversation is becoming the most valuable real estate in advertising. AI is accelerating that shift, turning chat into the place where people discover products, ask questions, and make decisions in real time." For brands, the new AI Sponsored Snaps open the door to Snapchat’s vast audience of nearly one billion monthly active users. This allows them to introduce their AI agents to foster user engagement and drive sales. The new ad format builds upon the success of previous Sponsored Snaps, which already reported a 22% increase in conversions at nearly 20% lower costs. With 85% of users actively participating in the Chat feed and over 950 billion chats exchanged in the first quarter of 2026, the potential for personalized, AI-enhanced interactions is immense. Notably, 57% of teenage users message friends daily, with 40% doing so several times a day, solidifying Snapchat as a prime platform for innovative advertising strategies.
