Snapchat has unveiled an innovative feature designed to enhance user safety by allowing friends and family to know when someone has arrived home safely. Dubbed 'Home Safe,' this functionality was announced on Thursday and aims to provide peace of mind for users after outings. To utilize this feature, users must first define their home location through the Snap Map by tapping their Bitmoji and selecting 'My Home.' When ready to notify a friend of their safe arrival, users can open the conversation, select the Map icon, and hit the Home Safe button. Once they reach their destination, an automatic notification will be sent to the selected friend within the chat. It's important to note that alerts can only be dispatched to friends with whom the user already shares their location. Additionally, since location sharing on Snap Map is disabled by default, no one will have access to a user's location or receive a Home Safe notification unless the user opts to share it. Snapchat emphasized the importance of this feature, stating, "Whether you’re returning from a first date, a crowded concert, or a weekend getaway, Home Safe can provide reassurance to a close friend or family member that you’ve arrived safely." This announcement follows the recent milestone of over 400 million monthly active users on Snap Map, a feature that originally launched in 2017 to allow users to view friends’ locations and explore public snaps from across the globe. Over the years, Snap Map has evolved to include options for discovering local attractions and activities.
