Snapchat is going to charge for storage — here’s how to save your Memories for free

After nearly ten years of serving as a digital archive for users' cherished moments, Snapchat is introducing a fee for its Memories feature. The platform recently revealed it will limit free Memories storage to 5GB. Users whose collections surpass this threshold will need to export their content or subscribe to one of Snapchat's new storage plans to keep their Memories intact. The introductory plan allows for up to 100GB of storage at a monthly cost of $1.99. For Snapchat+ subscribers, the offer extends to 250GB for $3.99 each month, while those with a Snapchat Platinum subscription will benefit from a substantial 5TB of storage for $15.99 monthly. Should users exceed the 5GB limit without opting for a plan, the app will retain the oldest Snaps, deleting the newer ones to comply with the storage cap. To assist users in managing their Memories, Snapchat has granted a grace period of 12 months for those who go over the limit. However, many are opting to export their Memories instead of incurring additional costs. There are two primary methods for users to safeguard their Snapchat Memories. One option involves downloading them directly to your camera roll, albeit in batches of 100, which can be cumbersome if you have a large number of Snaps. Alternatively, for those looking to bypass the batch download method, Snapchat offers a ‘Download My Data’ feature. This tool enables users to request their entire Memories archive, which is then sent via email in a .zip file. The duration for receiving this data can vary based on the volume of content stored. By utilizing these options, users can effectively manage their Memories without the need for a paid subscription.
