Snapchat now lets you inform others when you have arrived at your destination

Snapchat is enhancing its safety tools with the launch of a new feature called Arrival Notifications, allowing users to alert friends and family when they reach various destinations. Announced on Monday, this addition follows the success of the platform's earlier Home Safe feature, which notifies loved ones when users arrive home safely. With Arrival Notifications, users can now set up one-time or recurring alerts for specific locations beyond their home. This means that whether you're back from a trip or arriving at a regular meeting, you can automatically inform your friends without needing to remember to send a message. According to Snapchat's blog post, this feature is designed for everyday moments, making it easier to stay connected. Importantly, users have control over their location sharing; Arrival Notifications can only be sent to friends that users have specifically chosen to share their location with. By default, location sharing on Snap Map is turned off, ensuring that no one can see a user’s location or receive alerts unless permission is granted. One-time alerts expire either after being sent or after 24 hours. To activate Arrival Notifications, users must share their location with a trusted friend, navigate to the friendship profile, and select the Arrival Notifications option. They can then choose a location on the map, rename it for personalization, and set the type of alert they prefer. The introduction of this feature comes on the heels of Snapchat's announcement last summer that its Snap Map now boasts over 400 million monthly active users. Originally launched in 2017 to showcase friends' locations and public snaps, Snap Map has evolved to include local discovery features as well. With the addition of Home Safe and Arrival Notifications, Snapchat is positioning itself to compete more effectively against location-sharing services like Life360 and Apple's Find My.
