Snap unveils Snap OS 2.0 with native browser, WebXR support, and more

Snap has officially launched Snap OS 2.0, the updated software designed for its augmented reality glasses, the Snap Spectacles. This latest version introduces several exciting features, including a built-in browser and support for WebXR technology. This announcement follows the release of the fifth-generation Snap Spectacles for developers last year, with a consumer version anticipated to hit the market in 2026. The timing of this launch is particularly notable as it coincides with Meta's upcoming Connect conference, where advancements in smart glasses and AI are expected to be showcased. Among the key features of Snap OS 2.0 is a revamped browser that promises quicker load times and improved power efficiency, enhancing the overall user experience. The new home screen includes widgets and bookmarks, along with an updated toolbar that allows users to input website URLs either by typing or voice command. This browser update also enables users to resize windows similarly to how they would on traditional laptops. With the integration of WebXR support, users can now engage with augmented reality content directly from compatible websites. Another innovative addition is the Spotlight Lens, which allows users to overlay digital content onto the physical world, enabling multitasking—such as washing dishes while enjoying videos from their favorite creators.
