Snap has unveiled a new standalone Lens Studio app for iOS and a web-based tool, making the creation of augmented reality (AR) Lenses more accessible than ever. Announced on Wednesday, these innovative tools allow users of all skill levels to generate AR Lenses using simple text prompts and easy editing features. The iOS app enables users to create unique AI effects, incorporate their Bitmoji, and explore trending templates for personalized Lenses. Previously, Lens Studio was limited to a desktop application tailored for professional developers, but Snap’s latest offerings aim to broaden participation in AR creation. 'These experimental new tools simplify the process of creating, publishing, and enjoying Snapchat Lenses made by users,' Snap stated in a blog post. Users can now generate their own AI effects, add animated Bitmoji, and craft Lenses that resonate with their emotions or inside jokes, all from their mobile devices or computers. With a community of over 400,000 professional AR developers, Snap is actively seeking to engage a wider audience with these user-friendly tools. Renowned for its early adoption of AR technology through its filters and Lenses, Snap remains committed to expanding its capabilities in this space, particularly as some competitors, like Meta, have scaled back their AR initiatives. In tandem with these new user-oriented tools, Snap has also introduced advanced features for professional developers, including new Lens Studio tools designed for creating Bitmoji games, which feature a turn-based gameplay system and customizable character controls.
