Slack reimagines the future of work with its new Agentic OS for the AI era

At Dreamforce 2025, Slack introduced a groundbreaking update, transforming itself into an "agentic operating system" aimed at enhancing collaboration between humans and AI. This innovative platform integrates people, data, applications, and AI agents into a cohesive conversational workspace tailored for contemporary enterprises. Denise Dresser, CEO of Slack, emphasized the significance of this evolution, stating, "Every company is asking where their agents will live, how they’ll get context, and how to make them useful. Slack is the answer." By positioning Slack as the conversational interface for Salesforce, the company is providing employees with a reliable and unified platform for AI and agents, fundamentally changing how tasks are accomplished. This announcement signifies Slack's transition from merely a messaging service to a central productivity hub augmented by AI. The company has rolled out several key innovations, including an enhanced native AI, a personalized Slackbot assistant, and the Channel Expert agent designed to deliver immediate, in-channel knowledge. These enhancements empower employees to quickly find answers, automate tasks, and streamline workflows. Additionally, Slack is transforming into the conversational interface for Salesforce. With its new Agentforce integrations, various teams—sales, IT, HR, and analytics—can now directly access Salesforce data within Slack. This seamless integration allows for pipeline management, IT ticket resolution, and dashboard analysis through natural language, removing the need to sift through multiple tabs or applications. Mollie Bodensteiner, SVP of Operations at Engine, described Slack as a "command centre" for work, highlighting the platform's ability to automate processes that hinder productivity while providing the flexibility needed for ongoing innovation. The upgraded Slackbot now acts as a personal AI companion, assisting users with tasks ranging from summarizing meetings to drafting project plans, and integrates with tools like Google Drive, OneDrive, and Salesforce to deliver contextual insights and actions. Andy White, SVP of Salesforce on Salesforce Technology, remarked on the transformative potential of the Slackbot, stating, "Slackbot is showing us what the next era of productivity looks like." To further enhance enterprise AI capabilities, Slack has introduced new developer tools such as the Real-Time Search API and Model Context Protocol (MCP) server. These advancements allow partners like OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Perplexity, and Notion to create intelligent agents operating directly within Slack. Guillermo Rauch, CEO of Vercel, commended Slack’s adaptability, noting, "In the process, we realized Slack is the perfect AI agents platform. Our agents don’t feel like tools; they feel like team members."
