Slack has rolled out a significant upgrade to its platform, integrating cutting-edge AI automation and enhanced search functionalities directly into its workspace. This transformation is designed to empower teams to maintain focus, quickly access information, and streamline collaborative efforts all within the familiar Slack environment. At the heart of this update is a robust enterprise search tool capable of scanning conversations, documents, PDFs, images, and even third-party apps such as Google Drive, Jira, and Microsoft Teams. Users can now receive instant answers through natural language queries, making it easier to sift through historical project discussions or follow document trails. As Shalini Agarwal, VP of Slack Product at Salesforce, noted, "AI is intended to simplify work, but it often adds complexity. Our goal with Slack is to create AI that truly enhances productivity by integrating it seamlessly into the platform users already know and appreciate." Additional features include AI-driven writing assistance within the Slack canvas, which can summarize discussions, create structured updates, and refine rough notes into polished project briefs. Users can customize writing tones and reorganize content according to their preferences. During Slack huddles, the new tool can automatically generate transcripts, action items, and summaries to facilitate effective communication. Moreover, message-level insights have been introduced, allowing users to hover over technical jargon or abbreviations for quick definitions tailored to their specific context. When a message contains a task or request, Slack can create a clear action item, thus simplifying user responses and reducing the need to comb through lengthy threads. Upcoming features include AI-driven profile summaries and translation tools, which will assist cross-functional teams in understanding each other's roles and communicating seamlessly across language barriers. One noteworthy improvement is the revamped Shortcuts experience, which includes intelligent actions enabling users to automate tasks using Apple’s Intelligence model or Private Cloud Compute. Rahul Sharma, Vice President of Sales at Salesforce India, emphasized the importance of integrating AI into everyday workflows: "As Indian enterprises adopt AI for scaling operations, the true advantage lies in embedding AI where the work occurs. Slack’s AI features are transformative, bringing intelligence into our conversations and collaborative spaces. From quickly locating essential information through enterprise search to efficiently summarizing discussions, Slack’s AI minimizes friction and allows teams to focus on what matters most." The interface redesign also features a unified files view, which consolidates canvases, lists, and shared documents in one location, enhancing navigation and accessibility. On the security front, Slack assures users that no customer data is utilized for training AI models, and all features comply with enterprise-grade security standards, including FedRAMP and data residency regulations. These AI functionalities are available across Slack's paid tiers, with varying levels of summarization and search capabilities to cater to different user needs.
