The surge in demand for content-related jobs is rewriting the narrative in the tech industry. Contrary to the belief that artificial intelligence diminishes the value of creativity, the current AI boom has elevated creative roles to some of the highest-paying positions available. Recently, a job listing for a content strategist at OpenAI revealed a staggering compensation package that rivals those of senior engineering roles. The position offers a base salary ranging from $310,000 to $393,000, along with equity options. In comparison, the average salary for a content strategist in the United States stands at approximately $92,000, according to Glassdoor. The job description indicates that the successful candidate will be responsible for defining and implementing the content strategy for ChatGPT.com. This includes shaping the brand's voice, establishing tone guidelines, and actively engaging in writing, editing, and publishing content that resonates with a diverse global audience. OpenAI is looking for applicants with significant experience—between six to ten years or more—in areas such as content strategy, copywriting, or growth marketing, particularly within high-growth companies or recognized brands. They are not the only tech giant investing heavily in content talent; Meta recently announced a content engineer role related to generative AI with salaries ranging from $159,000 to $223,000. Meta's job listing emphasizes the necessity for candidates to possess backgrounds in journalism, creative storytelling, and various forms of media production, along with a minimum of one year of experience working with generative AI products. Despite several inquiries, neither OpenAI nor Meta provided comments on their job postings. Across the tech landscape, lucrative opportunities in content creation are emerging, especially in sectors influenced by AI. For instance, Duolingo recently advertised for a social media director position with a maximum salary of $342,000, while PayPal is seeking a head of CEO content with a salary approaching $240,000. According to PwC's 2025 Global AI Jobs Barometer, wages in industries linked to AI are increasing at double the rate of those in less impacted sectors. Workers equipped with AI skills are commanding a notable 56% wage premium. This analysis draws from around 841 million job ads across 24 countries, including the US, UK, Hong Kong, and Australia. Emerging job titles are also on the rise. Autodesk's recent AI Jobs Report indicated a dramatic 134.5% year-over-year increase in listings for 'AI Content Creator' roles based on an examination of nearly three million global job advertisements. Startups are also capitalizing on this trend; for example, the AI-focused startup Cluely is harnessing influencer marketing to drive growth, with aspirations of becoming a major social media presence on platforms like Instagram and TikTok.
