On Thursday, shares of the South Korean semiconductor powerhouse SK Hynix experienced a remarkable 11% increase following the announcement of its intention to raise up to $29.4 billion through a U.S. stock market debut. The company revealed plans to issue 17.79 million new shares in the form of American depositary receipts (ADRs) as part of its Nasdaq listing, as detailed in a recent regulatory filing. The potential offering could yield approximately 45.45 trillion won, equivalent to $29.65 billion. While trading is anticipated to commence on July 10, SK Hynix noted that this timeline might be adjusted. In a statement, the company emphasized that the ADR listing would expand its investor pool and facilitate a more accurate assessment of its corporate worth. "We aim to enhance our status as a global entity by increasing our presence in the United States, the heart of AI technological innovation," SK Hynix remarked. This strategic move arrives as the company intensifies its investments in response to the surging demand for AI chips. Additionally, SK Hynix is advancing its Yongin semiconductor cluster project in South Korea, which is slated to start operations in 2027, while also constructing a $4 billion state-of-the-art chip-packaging facility in Indiana, marking its first production site in the U.S.
