Apple to revamp Siri with ChatGPT-like AI capabilities in 2026: Report

Apple is gearing up to introduce a significant upgrade to its voice assistant, Siri, expected later this year. This overhaul aims to equip Siri with advanced AI capabilities similar to those of popular chatbots, allowing it to handle both voice and text commands more effectively. The announcement is anticipated during the WWDC 2026 event in June, according to sources from Bloomberg. Internally referred to as "Campos," this new version of Siri will be seamlessly integrated across Apple's product lineup, including the iPhone, iPad, Mac, and more. This comprehensive integration could enable Apple to compete more vigorously with other tech giants like Google and OpenAI in the burgeoning generative AI landscape. With its enhanced conversational abilities, the revamped Siri will be capable of executing complex tasks such as retrieving web information, creating content, generating images, and summarizing data. Additionally, the upgraded Siri is set to be embedded into various core applications, including Mail, Music, Podcasts, and Photos. Mark Gurman from Bloomberg highlighted that users will access the new features in the same way they currently engage with Siri, either by using the verbal command or by pressing the side button on their devices. He emphasized that users could request Siri to locate a specific photo based on a description and even edit it according to particular preferences, such as cropping or color adjustments. If Apple successfully launches this chatbot-enhanced version of Siri this year, it could mark a significant step forward in the AI race. Recently, Apple announced a collaboration with Google to integrate Gemini, which will further enhance the upcoming iteration of Siri. The update is expected to be part of the iOS 26.4 rollout in the months ahead, while the full-featured version will debut with the next-generation iOS update. Although the preview is slated for June, the official release is not anticipated until September 2026. However, it is important to note that Apple has yet to confirm the details regarding the chatbot-like Siri, leaving users eager for more information as the anticipated date approaches.
