Signos grows foothold in weight-loss wave fueled by GLP-1s with its AI health data tracking

Health tech startup Signos has announced a significant milestone, securing $20 million in funding to enhance its presence in the burgeoning weight-loss sector, which is increasingly driven by GLP-1 medications. This funding round, revealed on Wednesday, sees contributions from prominent investors including Google Ventures, Dexcom, and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama. A notable aspect of this investment is a new distribution partnership with Dexcom that will allow Signos' subscription services to be featured on Dexcom's direct-to-consumer platform. CEO Sharam Fouladgar-Mercer emphasized the shared vision between the companies regarding the future of glucose biosensing technology, which extends beyond diabetes management. He stated, "Their biosensor provides glucose data. We translate that into actual guidance." Signos has developed an innovative artificial intelligence-powered glucose monitoring system, marking a pioneering effort in helping users achieve healthy weight loss. This system, which received FDA clearance in 2025, utilizes Dexcom's continuous glucose monitor to analyze how real-time lifestyle decisions—such as dietary choices, sleep patterns, and stress levels—impact health. Based on this data, the platform offers personalized recommendations aimed at fostering healthier habits. Fouladgar-Mercer highlighted the importance of simplifying the complex data for users, noting, "Nobody wants to have a PhD in statistics to figure out their own body... we’re helping translate these glucose insights into actionable recommendations." The newly acquired funding is also set to enhance predictive AI features, including a meal scoring system designed to alert users about potential glucose spikes from specific foods before consumption. The startup envisions its service as a complementary tool for individuals undergoing GLP-1 treatment, or as a standalone weight loss solution. With the rising popularity of high-cost GLP-1 medications, such as Wegovy from Novo Nordisk and Zepbound from Eli Lilly, Signos' collaboration with Dexcom positions the company to gain greater traction in the fast-growing weight loss market. According to government statistics, nearly 74% of Americans are classified as overweight or obese, and JP Morgan forecasts that by 2030, around 25 million Americans will be utilizing GLP-1 drugs—more than double the number projected for 2025. Although specific figures on revenue and customer counts were not disclosed, Fouladgar-Mercer indicated that both revenue and user engagement have surged tenfold over the past six months, with tens of thousands participating in clinical studies. He concluded, "If we can't track the metabolic input and the response, then we can't help people as effectively as we want."
