Shopify CEO Tobi Lütke let AI read his MRI, and build the software to do it

Tobi Lütke, the CEO of Shopify, recently showcased a unique application of artificial intelligence in a personal health context. After receiving his annual MRI scan on a USB stick, which required specific commercial Windows software to access, Lütke opted for a more innovative approach. Instead of searching for the necessary software, he utilized Anthropic's Claude AI model to directly analyze the MRI files and create a web-based viewer from scratch. The outcome was impressive; Lütke noted that the AI-generated tool not only provided a more aesthetically pleasing interface but also included automatic annotations detailing the findings from his scan. This experience marked a significant moment for Lütke, who described it as an instance of "reflexively" turning to AI for tailored solutions when standard software falls short. In a thread on X that garnered over 7.5 million views, Lütke emphasized the importance of training oneself to instinctively leverage AI in various situations. He believes that cultivating this intuition can lead to the development of customized tools that meet specific needs. Bernard Golden, CEO of Navica, echoed Lütke’s sentiments, explaining that while integrating AI into established workflows may require initial effort and a shift in mindset, the long-term benefits can be substantial. Golden likened this process to learning a new language; the more one practices, the greater their confidence and skill become. This innovative approach by Lütke not only highlights the potential of AI in personal health technology but also serves as a call to action for others to explore how artificial intelligence can reshape their own practices.
