Mohalla Tech Pvt., the parent company behind ShareChat, Moj, and QuickTV, is gearing up for a potential initial public offering (IPO) aimed at raising up to $400 million next year, as reported by Bloomberg. This ambitious move comes on the heels of the Bengaluru-based social media platform achieving operational profitability in the first quarter of the fiscal year starting April 2026, after implementing significant cost reductions and restructuring efforts. 'Our unit economics has now turned positive,' stated Manohar Charan, ShareChat's chief financial officer, in an interview with Bloomberg News. He added, 'We aim to list within the next four to five quarters.' However, it is important to note that these IPO plans are still in the preliminary stages and may evolve over time. This potential public listing represents a significant turnaround for ShareChat, which, like many venture-backed Indian startups, faced challenges in the wake of the funding boom that accompanied the Covid-19 pandemic. In response, the company made tough decisions, including workforce reductions and a strategic withdrawal from unprofitable products, while revamping its business model to ensure that user revenue surpassed service costs. According to Bloomberg, ShareChat's annual revenue has now surpassed ₹1,000 crore and is projected to reach an annualized rate of ₹1,400 crore, showcasing a growth rate exceeding 30%. Notable investors in the company include Lightspeed and Tiger Global. A key driver of ShareChat’s recovery has been the surging popularity of micro-dramas—short, serialized episodes that can be as brief as 60 seconds. This format is rapidly becoming one of India’s most dynamic segments in digital entertainment. Venture capital firm Lumikai forecasts that the domestic micro-drama market will expand at a compound annual growth rate of 31%, potentially reaching $4.5 billion by 2030. ShareChat estimates that its platforms currently attract approximately 65 million monthly viewers of micro-dramas, representing nearly two-thirds of the audience for this format in India. Users across ShareChat and Moj collectively consume over 700 million micro-drama episodes daily, according to Charan. Additionally, the company reports that its short-video platform, Moj, along with ShareChat, boasts around 150 million monthly active users, while QuickTV, its subscription-based micro-drama service, has attracted about 3 million subscribers.
