In a bold announcement that has sent shockwaves through the internet, the world's largest shadow library has revealed it has amassed a staggering 300 terabytes of music files and metadata from Spotify. Known as Anna’s Archive, this library asserts that its recent data collection encompasses over 99 percent of all listens on the platform, positioning itself as the largest publicly accessible music metadata repository with an impressive catalog of 256 million tracks. The archive proudly claims to be the first fully open ‘preservation archive’ for music, featuring 86 million music files that represent approximately 37 percent of the songs available on Spotify as of July 2025. The process of curating these files prioritized popular tracks, allowing Anna’s Archive to exclude lesser-known or poor-quality songs, including those generated by artificial intelligence. While Spotify has not yet responded to requests for comment, the streaming giant acknowledged to Android Authority that it is actively investigating the claims made by Anna’s Archive regarding large-scale scraping of its platform. Spotify stated that its investigation centers on unauthorized access, highlighting that a third party allegedly scraped public metadata and employed illegal tactics to bypass digital rights management (DRM) protections to access some audio files. The extent of the data scraped remains unclear, and it is uncertain whether Spotify will take legal action to remove the torrents. For Anna’s Archive, the motivation to collect this data stemmed from discovering a method to scrape Spotify effectively. The organization expressed its desire to create a comprehensive music archive primarily focused on preservation, describing the scraping of Spotify data as an initial step toward assembling an authoritative list of torrents that represent all music ever produced.
