The set, named 'USBP Review,' was made available to the public in February and remained so until March 20, when it was switched to private less than thirty minutes after WIRED reached out to a phone number linked to the account. The individual associated with the account was reportedly living just a short distance from a CBP facility, yet WIRED has been unable to confirm whether this person is an active agent or contractor for the agency. A spokesperson for CBP stated that the matter is under review by the Office of Professional Responsibility, emphasizing that the review itself does not imply any wrongdoing. Despite attempts to gather comments from the Department of Homeland Security and Immigration and Customs Enforcement, no responses were received. If indeed the flashcards were created by someone connected to CBP, this could signify a grave security lapse for an organization tasked with protecting national safety. The publically accessible Quizlet set included specific codes for facility entrances, raising serious concerns about the potential risks involved. One flashcard prompted a question regarding the code for checkpoint doors, providing an exact four-digit combination as an answer. Another card inquired about the gate code for a particular entry point, also detailing a specific combination. While two additional gate codes were mentioned, WIRED has opted not to disclose those names due to uncertainty surrounding their confidentiality.
