Man used massage gun on his tired eyeballs. It went as well as you’d expect.

In an unusual twist on self-care, a young man from Scotland sought to alleviate his tired eyes in a rather unconventional manner. After spending long hours in front of screens, he decided to use a massage gun to treat his strained peepers, leading to unexpected consequences. The man, in his twenties, arrived at an eye treatment facility in Edinburgh after experiencing troubling symptoms, including an increase in floaters and flashing lights in his right eye over the course of six days. According to a report published in the BMJ Case Report, he had no prior injuries to his eyes or head and did not have a family history of eye conditions that could explain his sudden visual disturbances. Despite his mild nearsightedness, which required glasses, he had generally enjoyed good eye health. However, upon examination by doctors Niamh O’Connell and Ashraf Khan, they were taken aback by the severe state of his eyes. The examination revealed multiple retinal tears and extensive bruising in his right eye, along with a rare condition known as retinal dialysis, typically associated with significant trauma. His left eye was similarly affected, showing widespread bruising and six full-thickness retinal rips. Upon probing further about any unusual activities he might have engaged in, the man finally confessed to using a percussive massage gun with a small bullet-shaped attachment in an attempt to soothe his eyes. This unexpected self-treatment led to a serious medical condition that highlights the importance of caution when it comes to unconventional remedies for eye strain.
