ScaleOps raises $130M to improve computing efficiency amid AI demand

In an era where artificial intelligence is rapidly advancing, many companies grapple with inefficient computing usage, often wasting substantial resources. ScaleOps, a startup focused on addressing this mismanagement, has successfully raised $130 million in a Series C funding round, achieving a valuation of $800 million. The funding was spearheaded by Insight Partners, joined by existing investors like Lightspeed Venture Partners, NFX, Glilot Capital Partners, and Picture Capital. ScaleOps offers software that autonomously manages and reallocates computing resources in real-time, claiming to cut cloud and AI infrastructure costs by as much as 80%. Co-founded in 2022 by Yodar Shafrir, a former engineer at Run:ai—a GPU orchestration startup acquired by Nvidia—ScaleOps emerged from a clear understanding of the complexities involved in managing AI workloads. Despite the effectiveness of tools like Kubernetes in managing large-scale applications, they often fall short due to their reliance on static configurations. Shafrir notes that these limitations lead to underutilized GPUs and numerous performance challenges. “While tools offered visibility into issues, they fell short of providing solutions,” he explained. This gap indicated a substantial market opportunity for ScaleOps. The company's platform distinguishes itself by connecting application demands with infrastructure decisions in real-time, offering a fully autonomous solution that eliminates the need for manual configuration. Shafrir emphasizes the importance of understanding the context of each application to efficiently manage resources in dynamic environments. While competitors like Cast AI, Kubecost, and Spot have introduced automation tools, ScaleOps aims to deliver a comprehensive, context-aware platform built specifically for production environments. Serving a diverse global clientele, including notable firms such as Adobe, Wiz, DocuSign, Salesforce, and Coupa, ScaleOps has witnessed impressive growth, reporting over 450% year-over-year increases. With a total funding amounting to approximately $210 million, ScaleOps is poised for significant expansion. The startup plans to leverage its new capital to develop additional products and enhance its platform, addressing the pressing need for efficient infrastructure management as AI technologies continue to evolve.
