Humain, Saudi Arabia's national artificial intelligence company, has successfully secured funding of up to $1.2 billion (around Rs 11,000 crore) from the National Infrastructure Fund of the kingdom. This significant investment, announced on January 21, is aimed at enhancing the nation’s AI infrastructure and reducing dependency on foreign tech resources. The capital raised will be allocated towards acquiring advanced semiconductors and developing an AI data center with a capacity of up to 250 megawatts. This infrastructure is crucial for training 'sovereign' AI models, allowing Saudi Arabia to keep data processing and intellectual property within its borders. As the world’s foremost oil exporter shifts its focus from traditional hydrocarbon reliance, the kingdom is ramping up its artificial intelligence initiatives. Saudi Arabia sees the burgeoning demand for computing power as essential for diversifying its economy, which is increasingly leaning towards technology-driven sectors. Humain, established last year and fully owned by the Public Investment Fund (PIF), is at the forefront of this national AI strategy. The company has already secured several significant partnerships, including collaborations with Elon Musk’s xAI and AirTrunk, a firm backed by Blackstone, aimed at developing large-scale data center projects. With an eye on the future, Humain has set an ambitious goal of achieving a total power capacity of approximately 6 gigawatts by 2034. Officially launched in May 2025 by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Humain is also exploring a joint initiative with Infra, a segment of the Saudi National Development Fund, to establish a dedicated investment platform for AI data centers. This platform will attract both local and international investors, providing crucial financial support to realize Humain’s global AI ambitions.
