Sandisk stock soars 14% after blowout earnings report showing overwhelming AI demand

Sandisk has experienced a remarkable 14% increase in its stock price following an impressive earnings report that significantly exceeded Wall Street's expectations. The surge in demand for the company’s chips is largely attributed to the ongoing boom in artificial intelligence, which has propelled the need for advanced flash storage solutions. In the fiscal second quarter, Sandisk reported earnings of $6.20 per share, excluding special items, far surpassing the $3.62 per share anticipated by analysts from FactSet. Additionally, the company achieved revenue of $3.03 billion, exceeding the forecasted $2.69 billion. Looking ahead, Sandisk's guidance for the third quarter is also promising, with projected revenues set between $4.4 billion and $4.8 billion, greatly outpacing the $2.93 billion that analysts expected. The surge in demand for memory has been fueled by businesses' urgent need to enhance storage capabilities to support the rapid expansion of data centers, which are pivotal to the AI revolution. Notably, Sandisk's data center segment alone witnessed a staggering 64% growth sequentially. This increasing demand has resulted in a supply and demand imbalance within the memory market, enabling companies like Sandisk to raise prices while maintaining robust profit margins. The company anticipates third-quarter gross margins to fall between 65% and 67%, well above the 49.3% projected by analysts from StreetAccount.
