
At the Flash Memory Summit (FMS) 2025, Sandisk has made headlines by unveiling its latest innovation: a staggering 256TB NVMe enterprise solid-state drive (SSD). This breakthrough is powered by Sandisk's new UltraQLC platform, which significantly enhances storage performance, efficiency, and density, particularly for hyperscale and AI-driven applications. The UltraQLC platform utilizes BiCS8 QLC CBA NAND technology and features custom controllers alongside advanced system-level optimizations. Sandisk's development aims to meet the escalating demands of AI and data-heavy operations, including tasks like data ingestion, preparation, and the creation of rapid AI data lakes. Khurram Ismail, the Chief Product Officer at Sandisk, emphasized the significance of this advancement, stating, "Our UltraQLC platform is the culmination of years of work and learnings to build a flexible and robust architecture that achieves extraordinary capacities and maximum performance while maintaining efficiency." The 256TB NVMe SSD is not just about capacity; it also incorporates several innovations designed to enhance performance while minimizing power consumption. Alongside this flagship model, Sandisk has also announced the SN670 128TB NVMe SSD. Both products are set to be available in the U.2 form factor in the first half of 2026, with plans to release additional formats later in the year.
