In a bid to expand its wearable technology portfolio, Samsung is venturing into new and unconventional form factors, including earrings and necklaces. This initiative follows the successful launch of its first fitness-oriented smart ring last year, which joined the array of smartwatches already available in the market. According to Won-joon Choi, the Chief Operating Officer of Samsung’s mobile experience division, the company aims to create devices that facilitate communication and functionality without the necessity of smartphones. "We envision wearables that users don't have to carry around; they should seamlessly integrate into daily life," Choi expressed in an interview. The concept of wearables extends beyond traditional designs, as Choi highlighted possibilities for items such as glasses, earrings, and necklaces. Earlier developments include Samsung's collaboration with Google to create smart glasses, as well as plans for an advanced microdisplay for augmented reality glasses, reported by the Korea Economic Daily in May. This innovative approach positions Samsung at the forefront of wearable technology, potentially redefining how users interact with their devices.
