Samsung Galaxy S25 debuts One UI 8 with AI upgrades and new security tools

Samsung has officially started the rollout of One UI 8, its latest software update, which introduces a suite of advanced artificial intelligence tools along with improved security features and enhancements to user experience across its Galaxy product lineup. This update is making its debut on the Galaxy S25 series this week, with plans to extend to other models including the Galaxy S24 series, Galaxy Z Fold6, Galaxy Z Flip6, and Galaxy S24 FE later this year. One UI 8 is designed to offer users proactive and personalized suggestions based on their individual contexts, while reinforcing data protection protocols. Among the notable features are the Now Bar and Now Brief, which provide real-time updates on app activities, media playback, personalized reminders, traffic updates, and health information from Galaxy Watch devices. On the security side, Samsung has launched Knox Enhanced Encrypted Protection (KEEP), which establishes encrypted storage environments for specific apps, thus restricting access to sensitive data. Additionally, Knox Matrix enhances account security by automatically signing out compromised devices and notifying linked Galaxy products. The update also strengthens Secure Wi-Fi using post-quantum cryptography, which is vital for defending against emerging network vulnerabilities. AI plays a crucial role in the new functionalities, with Gemini Live enabling real-time interactions that can interpret both visual and auditory signals. The Circle to Search feature with Google broadens in-game assistance and provides instant translations on screens across various apps and websites. The update is tailored for different device formats, offering large-screen devices features like AI Results View, Split View, and Floating View, which facilitate the dragging and dropping of AI-generated content. The Galaxy Z Flip’s FlexWindow gains added capabilities, including voice-activated Gemini Live support, broader third-party app integration, and customizable wallpapers. Creative tools also feature prominently in this release, including Portrait Studio for generating pet portraits, Drawing Assist, and Writing Assist to boost productivity, alongside Audio Eraser for reducing background noise in recordings. Accessibility features such as Call Captions for transcribing speech during calls and keyboard translation within the Interpreter tool further enhance usability. The update also brings visual enhancements, including a redesigned clock that changes according to wallpaper, along with new emoji-based customization options for the FlexWindow.
