Samsung has introduced an exciting new foldable smartphone that transcends the typical Z Flip or Z Fold models. The Galaxy Z TriFold features a unique design with three articulating sections that reveal an expansive 10-inch tablet-like display, complemented by a conventional smartphone screen on the exterior. Set to launch this month in South Korea at a premium price, the Galaxy Z TriFold is expected to make its way to the United States in early 2026. Samsung has refined its Armor Flex Hinge technology specifically for this device. The two hinges exhibit slight variations in size to accommodate the differing shapes of the three panels. The central panel is the thickest at 4.2 mm, while the others are marginally thinner, allowing the device to fold neatly into a pocket-friendly size. While Huawei's Mate XT tri-fold phones have garnered attention, they remain unavailable in Western markets. At first glance, Samsung’s new offering appears similar, yet the mechanics of its three panels differ significantly. Unlike the Mate XT, which folds in a Z configuration using part of the main screen as a cover display, the TriFold's left and right segments fold inwards behind a dedicated cover screen. Samsung asserts that the design has undergone extensive testing to ensure the hinges can withstand years of daily use. Although the term 'pocketable' may vary for different users, the Galaxy Z TriFold can indeed fit in your pocket when folded, measuring 12.9 mm in thickness—substantially thicker than the Galaxy Z Fold 7's 8.9 mm profile. However, it remains only slightly bulkier than previous foldable models like the Galaxy Z Fold 6. With a 6.5-inch cover display at 1080p resolution, it mirrors the Z Fold 7's dimensions, though it carries a hefty weight of 309 grams, making it one of the heavier smartphones on the market.
