In a bold move at this year's Unpacked event, Samsung has expanded its foldable smartphone lineup with the introduction of the Z Fold7 and Z Flip7, alongside a more affordable option, the Z Flip7 FE. This strategic addition aims to capture a wider audience as Samsung continues to innovate in the foldable space. The Z Fold7 stands out as a premium device, now priced at $1,999, which is $100 more than its predecessor, the Z Fold6. Notably, it boasts a sleeker design, weighing in at just 218 grams—lighter than the previous model's 239 grams—and measuring a mere 8.9 mm when folded, a significant reduction from the Fold6's 12.1 mm. The device features a larger cover display at 6.5 inches, using dynamic AMOLED 2x technology, while the main screen expands to 8 inches when unfolded. Powering the Z Fold7 is Qualcomm’s cutting-edge Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, coupled with enhanced durability through a redesigned hinge and Corning Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 protection. The camera system sees a major upgrade as well, with a new 200-megapixel main camera with a f/1.7 aperture, significantly improving photo quality compared to the previous year's 50-megapixel model. Additionally, Samsung has integrated advanced AI capabilities into its photo editing software with features like Photo Assist, which allows users to manipulate images with ease. The Z Flip7 also embraces a thinner profile and larger displays, featuring a 4.1-inch super AMOLED cover screen and a 6.9-inch main display. This model packs a substantial 4,300 mAh battery—the largest in the Flip series—powered by Samsung’s own 3nm Exynos2500 chip. With enhanced protective features from Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2, the Z Flip7 is designed for durability. The new Z Flip7 FE, priced at $899, serves as a budget-friendly alternative while retaining many of the flagship features, including a 3.4-inch cover screen and a 6.7-inch main display, powered by the Exynos2400 processor. Samsung has integrated DeX support into the Flip series, allowing users to connect their phones to monitors for a desktop-like experience, along with a new feature called Now Bar that provides real-time updates on various activities. Moreover, Samsung has improved its voice assistant integration with Gemini Live support on the cover screen of the Z Flip7, enabling users to interact without unfolding the device. The enhanced capabilities of the new smartphones also promise a more seamless user experience, with upgraded Google Gemini assistant functionalities. Pre-orders for the Galaxy Z Flip7 and Z Fold7 are now live, with general availability set for July 25. The Z Flip7 comes in storage options of 256GB and 512GB, available in three stunning colors: Jetblack, Blue Shadow, and Coralred, while the Z Flip7 FE will be available in 128GB and 256GB variants in classic black and white. The Z Fold7 offers even more options with storage choices of 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB, available in Jetblack, Blue Shadow, and Silver Shadow. Samsung's latest offerings not only showcase their commitment to innovation but also cater to a diverse range of consumers, ensuring that the foldable experience is accessible for everyone.
