Samsung confirms that its tri-fold phone and Project Moohan XR headset are coming in 2025

In a significant announcement during its Q2 2025 earnings call, Samsung has revealed its intention to launch two groundbreaking products: the anticipated tri-fold smartphone and the innovative Project Moohan XR headset, both expected to hit the market by the end of 2025. The tri-fold smartphone, likely to be named the Galaxy Z Trifold or Galaxy G Fold, is projected for an October release. This device will feature a distinctive "Z-shaped" folding design, allowing both sides to fold inward for enhanced portability. The design is inspired by the Huawei Mate XT, which debuted in late 2022. A leaked tutorial video from a beta version of One UI 8 appears to corroborate initial concepts unveiled at CES 2022, showcasing a triple-folding display and an external cover screen. The rear side is anticipated to incorporate a triple-camera system akin to that of the Galaxy Z Fold series, and the hinges may utilize asymmetrical sizes to facilitate a sleeker, flatter fold. On the other hand, Project Moohan marks Samsung's entry into the mixed reality headset market. Set to run on Google’s Android XR operating system, this device will leverage Qualcomm’s Snapdragon XR2 Plus Gen 2 chipset and is expected to feature Sony’s 1.3-inch OLEDoS displays that promise 4K resolution and an impressive pixel density of 3,800 ppi. Full-color pass-through video capabilities will position it as a competitor to Apple's Vision Pro. Additionally, the headset will be compatible with various smartphone applications from the Google Play Store, while Samsung and Google collaborate on developing native XR experiences, including a revamped YouTube app tailored for virtual environments. Samsung is also focusing on integrating Google’s Gemini AI as the primary assistant for the headset, facilitating voice and gesture commands, alongside physical controllers for enhanced interactivity. In conjunction with these innovative products, Samsung is poised to launch the Galaxy S25 FE and Tab S11 series later this year, possibly around the same time as the tri-fold phone and XR headset. With several major product introductions on the horizon, Samsung may organize another Galaxy Unpacked event before the year concludes. However, the global availability of the tri-fold phone and Project Moohan remains to be seen, with initial releases likely limited to South Korea and China.
