Samsung's tri-fold smartphone could launch this month with XR headset and smart glasses

Samsung is gearing up for a significant reveal this month with the anticipated launch of its tri-fold smartphone. Leaks indicate that this innovative device, likely named the Galaxy Z Tri-Fold or Galaxy G Fold, is set to be unveiled on September 29 during a Galaxy Unpacked event in South Korea. This smartphone is designed with a dual-hinge mechanism, allowing it to expand into a larger, tablet-like display. This move marks a daring step for Samsung, pushing the limits of foldable technology. If the rumors prove accurate, the tri-fold smartphone will make its initial debut in South Korea, with a subsequent release in China. A broader global rollout is also anticipated, although specific details regarding this remain undisclosed. In terms of pricing, early reports suggest that the Galaxy Z Tri-Fold could retail for over 4 million KRW, which is approximately $2,930. This positions the device within the ultra-premium market segment, a strategy that underscores Samsung's ambition to lead the foldable smartphone sector while potentially limiting its appeal to a wider audience. The September event won’t solely focus on the tri-fold smartphone. Samsung is also expected to unveil the much-anticipated Project Moohan, now rumored to be named the Galaxy XR headset. This mixed-reality device is expected to be priced between 2.5 and 4 million KRW, or around $1,800 to $2,000, with a possible launch in Korea on October 13 before a global expansion. Additionally, Samsung may introduce its first AI-integrated smart glasses, informally referred to as Galaxy Glasses. While still in the developmental phase, this wearable could hint at Samsung's extensive vision for augmented reality technology. If these predictions come to fruition, September could witness two major showcases from Samsung, with the first event on September 4 to introduce products like the Galaxy Tab S11 and Galaxy S25 FE, followed by the groundbreaking hardware reveal on September 29.
