Galaxy AI may not be free for long, Samsung expected to announce pricing plans later this year

Samsung is gearing up to disclose its pricing strategy for the Galaxy AI suite, which debuted alongside the Galaxy S24 series in January 2024. Currently available at no cost, the company has made it clear that these features are only free until the end of 2025, leading to speculation about the introduction of a paid model in the near future. Reports from Korean media, citing insights from industry analysts, suggest that Samsung plans to unveil its Galaxy AI pricing plans by the third quarter of this year. This announcement could coincide with the upcoming Unpacked event, where the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 are expected to be launched, along with new Galaxy AI features. It is important to note that not all Galaxy AI functionalities may transition to a paid model. Sources indicate that Samsung might limit charges to advanced features that require significant computational resources, such as AI-driven video generation. This strategy aligns with competitors like Google and Honor, who already monetize similar capabilities. While speculation about a subscription model exists, Samsung has yet to confirm any details. A representative from the company has stated that “nothing has been decided yet” concerning the pricing of Galaxy AI features. For nearly two years, Samsung's messaging around Galaxy AI pricing has remained consistent, with promotional materials for products like the recently launched Galaxy S25 Edge emphasizing the free access until the end of 2025. As this deadline approaches, it seems increasingly probable that Samsung is contemplating a tiered or subscription-based pricing structure to sustain and enhance its AI services. TM Roh, a key figure at Samsung, has previously indicated that future pricing decisions will be shaped by “customer needs and market conditions.”
