Samsung has announced its intention to release a groundbreaking tri-fold smartphone by the close of 2025, marking a pivotal advancement in the realm of foldable technology. This revelation was made by TM Roh, President and Head of Mobile at Samsung Electronics, in the wake of the company’s Galaxy Unpacked event held in July, where the latest models of Galaxy Z Fold 7, Flip 7, and Flip 7 FE were introduced. In a conversation with journalists post-event, TM Roh emphasized, "We are diligently working on a tri-fold smartphone, aiming for a launch by the end of this year." He reiterated the company's commitment to ensuring that the device meets Samsung's high standards of quality and functionality. While the device's name remains undisclosed, it is expected to be finalized as the launch date approaches, with further insights from a Samsung executive indicating that preparations for mass production are already underway, alongside assessments of consumer interest in this innovative format. Though official specifications and images have yet to be unveiled, there are rumors suggesting the tri-fold phone may feature an impressive 9.96-inch to 10-inch OLED display when fully opened, accompanied by a secondary 6.54-inch screen in its closed state. The anticipated design is said to enable the device to fold inwards twice, resembling a 'Z' shape when expanded. Additionally, the smartphone is expected to be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset and utilize a silicon-carbon battery to enhance performance. As for its price point, early estimates indicate it could soar to around $2,900 (approximately ₹2.49 lakh). Initially, Samsung plans to launch the tri-fold smartphone exclusively in South Korea and China, with a broader international release likely slated for 2026, potentially introducing a refined second-generation model. This upcoming device follows Samsung's earlier showcase of a tri-fold prototype during the January Galaxy Unpacked event, which sparked speculation about its release alongside the Z Fold 7. With this official announcement and a tentative timeline established, Samsung is poised to redefine mobile design yet again. If successful, the tri-fold could pave the way for new form factors in future Galaxy devices, aligning with the company’s expanding ambitions in AI. For now, enthusiasts will need to remain patient until the end of the year to witness Samsung’s boldest foldable innovation yet, but the future of mobile technology is clearly unfolding.
