Samsung has officially unveiled the Galaxy Z TriFold, marking a significant milestone as the company’s inaugural tri-fold smartphone and its most daring foldable device to date. Following an extensive period of speculation, previews, and prototype demonstrations, the smartphone is set to launch next week in South Korea, with subsequent release plans for additional markets. The Galaxy Z TriFold showcases Samsung's extensive experience in the foldable space, featuring the largest display ever integrated into a Galaxy foldable. Equipped with dual titanium hinges, this innovative design ensures that both sides of the main display fold inward, safeguarding the entire screen when closed. In contrast to Huawei’s Mate XT series, Samsung has positioned the cover screen on the rear, which keeps the inner display protected at all times. When unfolded, the main display boasts a generous 10-inch diagonal size, offering a resolution of 2,160 x 1,584 pixels along with an adaptive refresh rate ranging from 1 to 120Hz and a peak brightness of 1,600 nits. A small punch-hole design accommodates a 10MP front-facing camera, and Samsung includes a protective film as a standard feature. The secondary cover display measures 6.5 inches, features a resolution of 2,520 x 1,080, and also supports an adaptive refresh rate of 1 to 120Hz with Corning Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 for added durability. Additionally, this cover display houses another 10MP selfie camera and has a 21:9 aspect ratio, providing a traditional smartphone layout when folded. Running on OneUI 8, which is based on Android 16, the Z TriFold introduces sophisticated multitasking capabilities. Users can operate three full-sized apps simultaneously in portrait mode, while the expansive screen enables a tablet-like workflow for enhanced productivity. This device also marks Samsung's first to support standalone Samsung DeX, allowing users to transition into a desktop-like interface directly from Quick Settings when connected to a keyboard and mouse, transforming it into a mobile workstation. Despite its three-panel design, the Galaxy Z TriFold remains impressively slim, with an Advanced Armor Aluminum frame measuring just 3.9mm at its thinnest point and a total weight of 309 grams when folded down to dimensions of 159.2 x 75 x 12.9mm. It also holds an IP48 rating for dust and water resistance. Under the hood, the smartphone is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy, paired with 16GB of RAM and storage options of either 512GB or 1TB. The rear camera configuration mirrors that of the Galaxy Z Fold7, featuring a 200MP main sensor (ISOCELL HP2), a 10MP telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom, and a 12MP ultrawide camera. A robust 5,600mAh battery, spread across the three rear panels, powers the device, which supports both 45W wired and 15W wireless charging. Initially available in a single Crafted Black finish, pricing details are yet to be revealed. South Korean consumers will have the first opportunity to purchase the device starting Friday, December 12, with plans for future availability in China, Taiwan, Singapore, the UAE, and the United States.
