Galaxy S26 Ultra leak hints at major camera upgrade and new Snapdragon chipset

Samsung is generating buzz ahead of the anticipated launch of its Galaxy S26 Ultra smartphone, scheduled for January 2026. Recent leaks reveal exciting enhancements, particularly in camera technology and overall performance, that could redefine user expectations. According to information shared by the Chinese leaker FixedFocusDigital on Weibo, the Galaxy S26 Ultra may feature an impressive 200MP main camera sensor, likely sourced from Sony. This marks a significant departure from Samsung's usual reliance on its proprietary ISOCELL sensors for the Ultra series. The new sensor is reported to measure 1/1.1 inches, a notable upgrade from the 1/1.3-inch sensor found in the Galaxy S25 Ultra. This increase in size is expected to provide improved light capture capabilities and enhanced image quality, especially in low-light settings. In addition to the primary camera upgrade, the S26 Ultra is rumored to include a versatile rear camera system featuring a 50MP ultra-wide-angle lens, a 12MP telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom, and a 50MP periscope lens with 5x optical zoom. Furthermore, the device is expected to incorporate Samsung's next-generation ProVisual Engine, which aims to enhance computational photography performance significantly. On the processing side, the Galaxy S26 Ultra is likely to be equipped with Qualcomm's forthcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 processor, which is set to be revealed later this year. Coupled with up to 16GB of RAM, this setup promises exceptional performance for multitasking, gaming, and AI-driven applications. Aesthetically, the phone is expected to maintain a 6.9-inch display akin to its predecessor, though it may feature slimmer bezels for a more immersive viewing experience. As with earlier Ultra models, the device is anticipated to hold an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance. While these details remain unconfirmed, the early insights suggest that Samsung is preparing to deliver a significant upgrade to its flagship lineup in 2026, with a strong emphasis on advanced imaging technology and superior performance.
