Marc Benioff, the CEO of Salesforce, is making a bold move in the realm of artificial intelligence, indicating that his company is set to invest approximately $300 million in tokens from Anthropic. This announcement came during a recent episode of the All-In podcast, where Benioff expressed his enthusiasm for AI coding agents, which he believes are revolutionizing the industry. Tokens, essentially fragments of information that assist AI models in processing user inputs, are crucial for billing in AI services. Benioff highlighted the transformative impact these coding agents have had on Salesforce, claiming they have introduced unprecedented efficiency across various departments, including service, support, distribution, and marketing. "These coding agents are awesome. Anthropic is awesome," he stated emphatically. In a significant move last August, Benioff revealed that the productivity gains from AI agents allowed Salesforce to streamline its support staff, reducing the number from 9,000 to 5,000. This trend of enhancing productivity is a key focus for Salesforce, which is also exploring innovations to simplify coding within Slack, the collaboration platform it acquired in 2021. "We're even working on technology inside Slack to make it easier for everybody to code," he noted. Looking ahead, Benioff is not solely focused on the high-end capabilities of Anthropic's Claude model. He envisions a future where an "intermediary layer" could optimize token usage, determining the best applications for both advanced and smaller AI models. This strategic approach underscores his commitment to harnessing AI's full potential while navigating the complexities of its implementation.
