Salesforce is intensifying its commitment to national security with the launch of a new initiative called Missionforce. Announced on Tuesday, this dedicated business unit aims to harness the power of artificial intelligence to enhance defense strategies across three critical domains: personnel management, logistics, and decision-making processes. Kendall Collins, who joined Salesforce in 2023 and serves as both the chief business officer and chief of staff to CEO Marc Benioff, will lead Missionforce. In the official announcement, Collins emphasized the unit’s mission, stating, "With Missionforce, we’ll now bring the best of AI, cloud, and platform technology from the private sector to modernize critical areas including personnel, logistics, and analytics. Our goal is straightforward: to empower our warfighters and the organizations supporting them to operate more intelligently, swiftly, and efficiently. There’s never been a more crucial time to serve those who serve." Salesforce has a longstanding relationship with the U.S. government, maintaining contracts with various federal agencies and branches of the military, including the Army, Navy, and Air Force. However, the company does not disclose the number of government contracts or the revenue generated from these engagements. This announcement is part of a broader trend among technology firms expanding their services for U.S. government agencies. Earlier this year, OpenAI introduced a specialized version of its ChatGPT for government use, followed by a deal allowing federal agencies access to its enterprise tier for just $1 annually. Similarly, Anthropic and Google have also offered their AI solutions at discounted rates to federal clients, showcasing a growing market for tech companies in the defense sector.
