Salesforce is intensifying its collaborations with leading players in the generative AI landscape as concerns grow among investors about the company's exposure to risks associated with rapid advancements in artificial intelligence. Ahead of its highly anticipated Dreamforce conference in San Francisco, Salesforce announced on Tuesday that it will integrate AI models from OpenAI and Anthropic into its Agentforce 360 software. In a notable expansion, Salesforce has broadened the capabilities of Agentforce, which now includes voice call functionality in addition to text chat. Brian Landsman, CEO of Salesforce's AppExchange and executive vice president of partnerships, emphasized the transformative potential of these technologies, stating, "The way people are going to interact with software is going to fundamentally shift," highlighting that interactions could occur through platforms like ChatGPT or Slack. Salesforce's partnership with Anthropic is set to enhance Agentforce 360's integration into Claude, further expanding the software's capabilities. Despite experiencing a 26% decline in share value this year, compared to a 13% increase in the S&P 500, Salesforce is under pressure from Wall Street to accelerate its revenue growth. According to analysts from Morgan Stanley, the initial revenue generated from Agentforce has been relatively modest, reflecting the challenges faced by larger software companies in adapting to the evolving AI landscape. Other major players like Atlassian, Datadog, and Intuit have also sought similar collaborations with AI developers, with Microsoft making a substantial investment of almost $14 billion in OpenAI. As part of its announcement, Salesforce revealed that customers will now be able to retrieve corporate data and generate visualizations in Tableau using the ChatGPT assistant, which boasts over 800 million weekly users. OpenAI recently introduced a software development kit for integrating third-party applications into ChatGPT, allowing companies to sell products via ChatGPT's instant checkout. Salesforce also clarified an earlier press release regarding the availability of Agentforce 360 applications and the Agentforce Commerce feature in ChatGPT, which are expected to launch later this year. The company aims to collaborate with Anthropic on developing solutions tailored for regulated industries, starting with financial services. Last month, OpenAI announced that ChatGPT users would have the ability to purchase from U.S. Etsy sellers and Shopify merchants. Additionally, Salesforce is adopting Anthropic's Claude Code programming product within its engineering organization. Landsman reiterated the company's commitment to deepening its partnerships in the AI domain, stating, "We plan to continue to go much deeper with these partners over time." Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff has actively defended the company's position in the evolving AI market, noting that both Anthropic and OpenAI utilize Salesforce tools, and highlighted how these next-generation AI companies are leveraging Slack as their operational platform.
