As Salesforce embarks on yet another round of layoffs, their severance package stands out as notably more generous compared to several other major tech firms. Internal documents obtained reveal that eligible U.S. employees can receive as much as 30 weeks of severance pay, a stark contrast to the offerings from companies like Oracle, Amazon, and Block. This round of layoffs, which Salesforce began notifying employees about on Monday, comes as the company faces rising concerns over the impact of AI technologies on traditional software solutions, including their flagship customer relationship management services. The tech giant has seen its stock price plummet by over 30% this year, adding to the urgency behind these workforce reductions. Salesforce's severance policy is structured to provide payments based on an employee's level, tenure, and age. For example, senior directors and director-level employees qualify for 13 weeks of base pay, while senior managers and lower-tier employees are entitled to 9 weeks. Additionally, employees aged 60 and above receive an extra four weeks, with all workers accruing three weeks of service credit for each year of employment. Notably, those with partial years of service are considered as having a full year. Furthermore, employees are granted six months of COBRA health coverage, which extends to 12 months for those aged 60 or older. The total severance payout is limited to a maximum of 26 weeks, or 30 weeks for older employees. In comparison, other tech companies have offered less substantial severance packages. For instance, Oracle provided laid-off employees with four weeks' base salary plus one week for each additional year worked, capped at 26 weeks. Block, which recently laid off nearly half of its workforce, offered 20 weeks of salary along with an extra week for each year of service. Amazon's severance for its January layoffs included full pay and benefits for 90 days, followed by an additional severance package. Despite inquiries regarding their severance policy, Salesforce has not commented on the matter.
