Salesforce's Agentforce software is coming to OpenAI's ChatGPT later this year

Salesforce is intensifying its collaborations with leading generative artificial intelligence firms, responding to rising investor concerns over its business viability in the face of the AI surge. Just before the company’s annual Dreamforce conference in San Francisco, Salesforce revealed plans to incorporate AI models from OpenAI and Anthropic into its Agentforce 360 software. In a significant expansion, Salesforce announced that Agentforce will now support voice interactions in addition to text chats, further enhancing its capabilities. Brian Landsman, CEO of Salesforce's AppExchange and executive vice president of partnerships, highlighted the transformative nature of these advancements, stating, "The way people are going to interact with software is going to fundamentally shift." He mentioned that interactions could occur through platforms like ChatGPT or Slack. Salesforce is also set to collaborate with Anthropic to integrate Agentforce 360 into their Claude AI. Despite these advancements, Salesforce's stock has seen a decline of approximately 26% this year, contrasting with a 13% rise in the S&P 500, as investors look for more rapid revenue growth from the cloud software provider. Analysts from Morgan Stanley noted that revenue from Agentforce has been described as "modest" thus far. The trend among large software companies is increasingly leaning towards partnerships with AI model developers. Notable firms such as Atlassian, Datadog, and Intuit have previously engaged with OpenAI, while Microsoft has made a substantial investment of nearly $14 billion in the organization. Recently, Databricks also pledged $100 million toward OpenAI models. As part of the new features, users will have the ability to interact with corporate information and create visual data representations in Tableau through the ChatGPT assistant, which boasts over 800 million weekly users. OpenAI recently introduced a software development kit designed for incorporating third-party applications into ChatGPT, enabling businesses to leverage ChatGPT's instant checkout feature by 2025. Salesforce is further focusing on collaborating with Anthropic to provide solutions for regulated sectors, beginning with financial services. OpenAI announced last month that its ChatGPT users could soon purchase items from U.S. Etsy sellers and Shopify merchants. In addition, Salesforce's engineering team is adopting Anthropic's Claude Code programming tool. Landsman affirmed the company’s commitment to deepening these partnerships in the future. Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff has been vocal in defending the company’s position within the thriving AI landscape, noting that both Anthropic and OpenAI utilize Salesforce tools. "All these next-generation AI companies, from OpenAI to Anthropic, are on Slack and leveraging our platform to operate their businesses," Benioff stated during a recent earnings call.
