Rubrik, a leader in data cybersecurity, has revealed its plans to acquire the startup Predibase, which specializes in helping organizations train and refine open-source AI models to better suit their specific needs. This acquisition reflects Rubrik's ongoing strategy to enhance the adoption of AI agents within enterprises. While the financial details of the acquisition remain undisclosed, sources indicate that the deal could be valued between $100 million and $500 million. Rubrik has opted not to confirm the exact figure. Founded in 2021 by Devvret Rishi, Piero Molino, and Travis Addair, Predibase has successfully secured over $28 million in venture capital from notable investors such as Felicis, Greylock, and Sancus Ventures. The merger is expected to enable Rubrik’s customers to more rapidly develop AI agents utilizing platforms like Amazon Bedrock, Azure OpenAI, and Google Agentspace. In a blog post discussing the acquisition, Rubrik's co-founder and CEO, Bipul Sinha, expressed optimism about the potential synergies, stating, "Combining Predibase’s capabilities with Rubrik’s secure data platforms can be revolutionary, ensuring that trustworthy data fuels responsible and impactful AI applications." This move positions Rubrik among a growing list of companies expanding their technological capabilities through strategic acquisitions. For instance, Salesforce's recent $8 billion purchase of Informatica and Snowflake's acquisition of Crunchy Data earlier this year underline the industry’s trend towards enhancing AI functionalities. Rubrik itself, established in 2014, has raised over $1.6 billion in venture capital from prominent investors before its public listing in April 2024.
