Roblox announces short-form video feed for gameplay clips, new AI tools for creators, and more

Roblox, the popular online gaming platform, has introduced a new TikTok-style feature called "Roblox Moments" designed for users to share their gameplay clips. Announced at the Roblox Developers Conference, this innovative short-form video feed is currently in beta for users aged 13 and older. Players can capture gameplay moments, edit them, and share clips up to 30 seconds long, complete with music and descriptions. The feed also allows users to explore gameplay content shared by the community, interact with clips through emoji reactions, and dive into games directly from the videos. In addition to the video sharing feature, Roblox is set to enhance the earnings potential for creators by increasing the Developer Exchange (DevEx) rate, enabling creators to earn 8.5% more when converting their Robux into cash. The new rate means that 100,000 Robux will now equal $380 instead of $350. According to Roblox, this move significantly supports the growth of a thriving creator economy, with the average revenue for its top developers having surged to nearly $1 million, reflecting an increase of 2.9 times since 2020. Roblox is also rolling out advanced AI tools aimed at enhancing the creative process for developers. These updates will allow creators to generate fully functional 3D objects, starting with vehicles and weapons. For instance, a prompt like "a sleek, futuristic red sports car" can lead to the creation of an interactive vehicle that can be customized further. Additionally, a new real-time voice chat translation feature will be implemented next year, enabling players who speak English, Spanish, French, and German to communicate seamlessly. The platform is also introducing text-to-speech and speech-to-text APIs, which will enhance the immersive experience by providing instant narration and supporting voice commands for gameplay actions. Furthermore, Roblox has announced performance improvements, including a new mode called "Server Authority" aimed at reducing cheating and making in-game physics more realistic. Avatars will soon exhibit more lifelike movements, with enhancements for actions such as running and climbing. These updates come alongside Roblox's ongoing commitment to child safety, which includes expanding its age-estimation technology and collaborating with the International Age Rating Coalition to implement age and content ratings for games on its platform. This proactive approach is particularly crucial given the scrutiny surrounding child safety in gaming environments.
