Roblox’s 4D creation feature is now available in open beta

Roblox has taken a significant step in game design with the launch of its open beta for a groundbreaking 4D creation feature. This new capability allows developers to create not just static 3D models but fully interactive objects that enhance gameplay. The feature has been in early access since November and adds a dynamic layer of interactivity to the platform. Previously, creators on Roblox utilized the Cube 3D tool, which enabled the generation of over 1.8 million 3D objects since its introduction last March. Now, with the 4D creation tool, users can design items that move and respond to player actions within the game. At its launch, the feature includes two templates, known as schemas. The first template, “Car-5,” allows creators to construct a car from five distinct parts: the body and four wheels. This innovation means that cars can now be animated, with spinning wheels, providing a more lifelike experience. The second template, called “Body-1,” is designed for creating objects from a single piece, such as simple boxes or sculptures. One of the first games to utilize this feature is Wish Master, where players can create and drive cars, fly planes, and even summon dragons. Looking ahead, Roblox plans to empower creators by allowing them to develop their own schemas, offering even greater freedom in object behavior customization. Additionally, the company is exploring advanced technologies that could generate detailed 3D models based on reference images, further enhancing the creative toolbox available to users. Roblox’s CEO, David Baszucki, recently shared insights about a new initiative called “real-time dreaming,” which will enable creators to build immersive worlds through keyboard navigation and real-time text prompts. This exciting development comes shortly after Roblox implemented mandatory facial verification for users wishing to access chat features, a move prompted by ongoing discussions around child safety in gaming.
