Robinhood now lets your AI agents trade stocks

In a notable shift within the tech industry, Robinhood has announced its new feature allowing AI agents to engage in stock trading and manage payments for users. This innovative step was revealed on Wednesday, showcasing Robinhood's commitment to integrating artificial intelligence into its platform. Users can now set up distinct accounts specifically for their AI agents, linking them to a dedicated wallet designed for trading activities. These AI agents will analyze users' portfolios to devise trading strategies and recommend investments, but they will only operate within the confines of the pre-loaded balance in the linked wallet for executing orders. Every transaction made by the AI agent will trigger a notification to the user, who will be able to monitor all activities through the Robinhood app. For certain trades, users will have the option to approve the agent's actions before they are finalized. Enhancing security, Robinhood has implemented fraud detection measures that involve a dedicated team reviewing any suspicious trades to assist users in resolving potential disputes. Additionally, Robinhood is introducing its Model Context Protocol (MCP) service, enabling users to connect their AI agents for tasks such as analyzing concentration risk, managing sector exposure, and executing trades based on insights gleaned from analyst notes. Currently, this agentic trading functionality is in beta and limited to stock trading, with plans to extend support to options, cryptocurrencies, event contracts, futures, and prediction markets in the near future. In tandem with this feature, Robinhood is launching a virtual credit card specifically for AI agents. This card will allow users to link their AI agents to the company's banking MCP server for making payments. Initially available only to Robinhood Gold Card holders, this virtual card includes options to set monthly spending limits and requires user approval for each transaction. Robinhood's foray into AI technology has been steadily growing, having acquired the AI-driven research platform Pluto in 2024 and recently introducing an AI assistant that provides investment advice. "There has been a significant demand from our users to integrate their own tools and AI agents with Robinhood, which is why we are excited to unveil these products," stated Abhishek Fatehpuria, VP of product at Robinhood, in a conversation with TechCrunch. Robinhood's initiative aligns with a broader trend, as other major companies like Stripe, Amazon, and Google, alongside emerging startups such as Prava Pay, are also developing solutions that enable AI agents to facilitate payments on behalf of users.
