Rivian reveals pricing and trim details for its R2 SUV

Rivian is making waves in the automotive world with the announcement of its highly anticipated R2 SUV, set to hit the market in early 2026. The company, known for its unique approach to electric vehicles, is taking a traditional route by introducing the premium R2 Performance model first. Starting at $57,990, this model comes with an impressive launch package, although the total cost will include a $1,495 delivery fee. The R2 Performance boasts an incredible range of up to 330 miles (531 km) thanks to its robust 87.9 kWh battery pack. Powering the vehicle is a dual motor setup that delivers 656 horsepower (489 kW) and 609 lb-ft (825 Nm) of torque, allowing for quick acceleration and performance. Charging is efficient, with fast charging capabilities that can take the battery from 10% to 80% in just 29 minutes. The vehicle is equipped with semi-active suspension for a smoother ride and features a unique rear window that drops into the tailgate. Inside, the R2 Performance offers luxurious touches such as birch accents, heated front and rear seats (with ventilation for the front), and a high-quality nine-speaker sound system. The exterior is enhanced by matrix LED headlights and a convenient flashlight that is stored in the door, reminiscent of hidden umbrellas in some luxury cars. Optional upgrades for the R2 Performance include the Autonomy+ driver assist system, a tow package capable of handling 4,400 lbs (1,995 kg), and additional color choices beyond the standard silver. The launch package also includes a lifetime subscription to Autonomy+ and the tow package, with an optional body color available. Later in 2026, the R2 Premium will be introduced at a starting price of $53,990. While it shares the same range and battery capacity as the Performance model, it generates slightly less power at 450 hp (355 kW) and 537 lb-ft (728 Nm) of torque. Additionally, the R2 Premium will have fewer drive modes and will come with 20-inch wheels instead of the 21-inch ones featured on the Performance version, making it a more accessible option for buyers seeking a capable electric SUV.
