Aravind Srinivas, the CEO of the AI search company Perplexity, has presented a compelling vision for the future of work, where artificial intelligence significantly diminishes the need for additional human employees. In a recent discussion on CNBC’s Squawk Box, Srinivas highlighted the potential of AI solutions, particularly the Comet browser, to enhance productivity and reduce labor costs. Srinivas referred to AI tools like Comet as 'true personal assistants' capable of functioning independently, managing tasks without requiring human intervention. Recently, the company removed the $200 monthly fee that previously restricted access to Comet, making it available to all users. "Instead of bringing another person onto your team, you can leverage Comet to augment the work you’re already doing," he stated, stressing how these advanced AI capabilities can take over routine tasks typically handled by entry-level or administrative roles. He envisioned a future where AI operates seamlessly in the background, managing emails, organizing schedules, and prioritizing tasks even while users are asleep. "The future is about AIs that perform tasks for you, even without you asking," he elaborated. Last week, Perplexity announced the general availability of Comet, allowing free users to access features that were once exclusive to Pro and Max subscribers. Srinivas took to X to confirm this exciting update: "Comet is now available for everyone to download (free, Pro, and Max users)!" He also humorously referenced Google Chrome in a tweet, quoting a post from user Walter Bloomberg. Additionally, Perplexity introduced Comet Plus, a new subscription service that grants both human and AI users access to premium news content. Notable launch partners include major publications like The Washington Post, CNN, Condé Nast (which encompasses The New Yorker, Wired, and Vogue), Fortune, and Le Monde. Current Pro and Max subscribers will receive Comet Plus at no additional cost.
