
In an exciting development for the electric vehicle industry, HMC E-Valley Pvt. Ltd., under the HMC HIVE brand, has entered into a memorandum of understanding with KPIT Technologies. Their collaboration aims to set up a dedicated Centre of Excellence in the Delhi NCR region that will specialize in light electric vehicles (LEVs) and micromobility solutions. This partnership merges HIVE’s strengths in manufacturing and e-mobility with KPIT’s advanced capabilities in mobility software and systems engineering. The new centre is expected to serve global original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) focusing on micromobility and L-category electric vehicles, including e-bicycles. As cities worldwide seek sustainable alternatives for short-distance travel, the timing of this initiative is critical. Light electric vehicles are increasingly recognized for their potential in enhancing first and last-mile connectivity and reducing urban congestion and emissions. Pankaj M Munjal, Chairman of HMC, emphasized the significance of this partnership, stating, "The Light Electric Vehicle industry stands at a crucial crossroads, necessitating a blend of innovative hardware and intelligent software. This collaboration with KPIT represents a significant step towards HIVE’s commitment to transforming urban mobility with high-quality, sustainable micromobility solutions on a global scale." Kishor Patil, CEO and Managing Director of KPIT Technologies, acknowledged the essential role of software in the evolution of future mobility platforms. He remarked, "Even in micromobility, the future is driven by smart software and seamless system integration. Our deep expertise in mobility technology will be pivotal in enabling the Centre of Excellence to create world-class, cost-effective, and safe LEV platforms. We are eager to merge our software capabilities with HIVE’s manufacturing prowess to enhance the journey towards safer, smarter, and cleaner transportation." The Centre of Excellence will provide comprehensive design and engineering services tailored for the light electric vehicle sector. HIVE will take charge of business development, customer interactions, prototyping, and manufacturing support, while KPIT will handle engineering delivery, detailed design, software development, systems integration, and program management. This global partnership is set to pave the way for the development of next-generation light electric vehicle platforms, combining scalable manufacturing with supply chain efficiencies and AI-driven mobility solutions to streamline development cycles and elevate product quality for OEM clients around the globe.
