ChatGPT Pulse delivers morning updates based on your chat history

On Thursday, OpenAI unveiled ChatGPT Pulse, an innovative feature designed to provide tailored daily updates for users without the need for constant prompts. Currently available to Pro subscribers on mobile devices, this new tool represents OpenAI's latest effort to transform ChatGPT into a proactive assistant. Unlike traditional interactions, ChatGPT Pulse conducts overnight research to curate relevant information based on a user’s chat history and linked applications. OpenAI describes this feature as offering 'personalized research and timely updates that appear regularly to keep you informed.' By analyzing a combination of saved preferences and connections to services like Gmail and Google Calendar, the AI generates visual summaries, or 'cards,' that present updates on various topics. Each morning, users can expect to see these illustrated cards, which contain brief overviews that can be expanded for further details. Topics may include project follow-ups, dining suggestions, or travel advice tailored to individual interests. Feedback options like thumbs up or down allow users to refine the information they receive, while a 'curate' button enables them to request specific subjects. This proactive approach means users no longer need to initiate conversations; ChatGPT now strives to present relevant information ahead of time through what OpenAI terms 'asynchronous research.' This process involves generating inquiries and responses overnight using conventional research methods. Updates are delivered once a day and remain accessible for 24 hours, unless saved or turned into chat conversations through follow-up questions. Furthermore, integrating Gmail and Google Calendar can enhance the relevance of suggestions. With these connections, for instance, ChatGPT can draft meeting agendas, remind users about upcoming birthdays, or recommend restaurants for future trips. These integrations are disabled by default but can be activated in user settings. However, like many advanced AI products that rely on large language models, the effectiveness of ChatGPT Pulse can vary depending on the topic. Through testing with college students in its ChatGPT Lab program, OpenAI discovered that users began to appreciate the feature once they communicated their desired insights to the AI.
