A groundbreaking AI-based travel assistant has been introduced to enhance the holiday planning experience for Indian travelers, allowing them to communicate in both Hindi and English. This innovative tool enables users to navigate their travel arrangements through natural language queries, eliminating the need for rigid search parameters or proficiency in English. Currently in beta, this feature launched by MakeMyTrip supports queries in Hindi and English, with plans to incorporate more Indian languages in the future. Travelers can pose open-ended questions such as, "Mujhe Udaipur mein 3-star hotel 3500 ke budget mein chahiye" or "Suggest a no-flight route to cover Madurai, Rameswaram, Kovalam, and Kodaikanal," and receive tailored suggestions based on real-time availability and pricing. This virtual assistant facilitates dynamic itinerary creation, modifications, and comprehensive booking, all within a single conversational interface. Leveraging a multi-agent GenAI framework, it operates across various services, including flights, lodging, holiday packages, ground transportation, visas, and foreign exchange. The system also accommodates multiple input formats such as voice, text, and in the future, image and video, aiming to bridge the gap between inspiration and action in travel planning. Rajesh Magow, Co-Founder and Group CEO of MakeMyTrip, emphasized that this initiative aims to make travel planning more accessible to a broader segment of Indian users who may feel underserved by platforms predominantly in English. He described the Hindi rollout as a significant move toward reaching the "Bharat heartland." Sanjay Mohan, Group CTO, referred to the project as "one of the most ambitious tech builds" within the company, highlighting that the AI has been trained to manage various travel categories with real-time planning capabilities. Since the integration of GenAI into its booking system in 2023, MakeMyTrip has gradually introduced features like Fare Lock, Zero Cancellation, and predictive booking tools. This latest AI enhancement further deepens that integration, enabling travelers to complete the entire journey—from initial search to confirmed booking—via natural language interaction. Upcoming updates are expected to include more advanced semantic search capabilities and support for media-based queries, allowing users to engage through images or videos to receive curated travel recommendations.
