Todoist’s app now lets you add tasks to your to-do list by speaking to its AI

In a significant leap for productivity tools, Doist, the creator of the widely used Todoist app, has unveiled a groundbreaking feature called Todoist Ramble. This new addition allows users to transform their spoken words into organized tasks seamlessly. Designed for those constantly on the move, Todoist Ramble utilizes advanced AI technology to convert natural language into actionable to-dos. This feature is particularly useful for individuals who struggle to jot down reminders while multitasking. With just a tap on the Ramble icon, users can begin speaking, and the app will instantly log and update their tasks in real-time. The AI behind Ramble is powered by large language models (LLMs) and utilizes Google’s Gemini 2.5 Flash Live model via Vertex AI to ensure accurate speech understanding. As users speak, their audio is processed, and the model identifies tasks, deadlines, priorities, and other relevant details without storing any audio data for training purposes. Doist emphasizes that the app is SOC2 Type II certified, ensuring user privacy and data security. Ramble’s capabilities mirror the functionalities seen in various AI-driven hardware devices that convert speech into notes and reminders. Notable examples include Amazon’s Bee wearable, which generates tasks based on voice input, and devices from startups like Plaud that capture meeting highlights. There’s increasing enthusiasm for AI-powered smart rings as well, which allow users to add tasks effortlessly with a simple touch. Before its official launch, Todoist Ramble underwent beta testing with approximately 150,000 users, yielding impressive engagement statistics. In just three weeks, testers completed around 290,000 sessions across desktop and mobile platforms, with task creation success rates climbing from 40% to about 62%. This surge in efficiency has reportedly led to a significant increase in user upgrades, with new users adopting higher-tier plans at a rate five times greater than prior to using Ramble. Now available on iOS, Android, desktop, and web, Todoist Ramble supports 38 languages, making it accessible to a global audience. While users on the beginner plan can access the feature with limited monthly sessions, Pro and Business plans offer unlimited use. For enhanced convenience, shortcuts for the feature can be added to Home Screen or Lock Screen on iOS, and to app shortcuts, widgets, and quick settings tiles on Android.
