Ditto, a groundbreaking dating startup, is making waves in the matchmaking industry by harnessing the power of artificial intelligence. Founded by UC Berkeley dropouts Allen Wang and Eric Liu, the company aims to simplify the dating experience for college students through its innovative AI-driven platform. The startup utilizes a unique approach to matchmaking, relying on data provided by users to create personalized connections. After users set up their profiles, they communicate directly with Ditto's AI chatbot via text, sharing their dating preferences without the need for an app. Every Wednesday, users receive a text notification about a potential match, and following each date, Ditto solicits feedback to refine future matches. "We're bringing people back to in-real-life interactions," Wang stated, highlighting the company's mission to move beyond traditional dating apps. With the announcement of a $9.2 million seed funding round led by Peak XV and supported by other investors such as Alumni Ventures, Ditto plans to enhance its hiring efforts in AI and marketing, aiming to expand its reach across more college campuses. Currently, Ditto has attracted around 42,000 users across various campuses in California and intends to grow this number through engaging events like yacht parties, where students can sign up for the service and potentially meet their matches in person. The pitch deck presented to investors underscores Ditto's vision of an AI social agent network that transforms user profiles into interactive matchmaking agents. It emphasizes a shift in dating culture, particularly for Gen Z, who prefer genuine, face-to-face interactions over the frustration of swiping on existing platforms like Tinder or Bumble. As Ditto continues to develop its AI capabilities, it seeks to enhance user experience by analyzing compatibility through hobbies, interests, and even humor levels, facilitating meaningful connections in a world tired of digital barriers. With its focus on growth over immediate monetization, Ditto is poised to disrupt the dating landscape with its fresh, innovative approach to romance.
